Unreal Games
Games
These are the Unreal games that I have completed, mainly by following udemy courses. The skills learned from undertaking the related courses feedback into my existing knowledge of the game engine as well as learning C++ and its use in unreal.
Unreal - Simple shooter
This is the most recent project completed following a udemy course and learning C++ in unreal. Similar to the tank game it makes use of a simple game mode with the objective to destroy all enemies in the level, however, this makes us of a third-person character and raycasting to cause damage. The mechanics of the game can be expanded in a number of ways such as different weapons, an alternative mode and/ or multiplayer.
Other levels could be created with the modular assets used to maintain consistency and expand on the game overall.
Twin Stick Shooter
The more advanced game made with unreal's blueprints is the twin-stick shooter. This could be built upon in many different ways with additional mechanics to the player/AI, additional enemy types, a win condition, and subsequent levels to name a few.
Ball Run
With this ball game, I learned more about applying a rotation to objects and using this to create controls for the player to move the ball itself. The game itself could be taken further with alterations to perspective, different hazards, and materials that affect the player's control over the ball. An example of this would be an ice material that dampens the change in direction.
Other ways the mechanics learned from the game and the course could be applied to create a basic golf game.
Tank Game
This tank game was made in unreal and following a course on udemy. I set out to create a basic level for the mechanics of the game. I chose to use basic mostly shapes and bright colours to present the feel of building blocks/ toys to help reflect the current assets for the tank and turrets. this could be taken further with different mechanics as well as other toy-themed levels, for example, a play mat or sandpit to make use of different terrain types.
Dungeon Escape
This is another game made with unreal and through udemy. It makes use of some basic C++ code to allow interaction with objects and the environment by placing them on a pressure plate or trigger volume to open the doors.
I followed the process of blocking out the initial level with the basic components for the game and iterated through the choice of lighting and props to create a more believable dungeon. This could be expanded upon with a much larger level with multiple rooms and various requirements to open the next door to progress.
